September Webinar

Thursday, September 19 • Noon

In a world in constant evolution, numerous driving forces of change impact the health of our communities, defining the current and future needs of our diverse populations and influencing our ability to achieve physical, social, and mental wellbeing for all.

Design can play a fundamental role in responding to these changes and supporting health improvements for every individual. Scientific research conducted by Dr. Morganti with the LS3P Healthcare Team led to the “Future of Healthcare in the Southeast” white paper, which aims to match current and future trends in healthcare with optimal healthcare design strategies, learning from scientific evidence and experiences from across the industry.
The webinar will explore key insights from the research, also providing examples of design innovations from European and American case studies.

Our Panelists

Dr. Alessandro Morganti, MD, PhD, is a medical design research consultant, collaborating with Healthcare Groups and Architecture firms like LS3P. Dr. Morganti earned his MD from the University of Milano-Bicocca and his MS from Politecnico di Milano. Over the course of his medical training, he became passionate about how space impacts the patient experience, leading him to pursue a PhD in architecture after medical school. He served as a visiting scholar in Stanford Medicine’s Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department in 2021-2022, and was recently selected for a Joseph G. Sprague New Investigator Award by the Center for Health Design. His applicative research work focuses on Healthcare Design and Design for Neurodiversity, with projects across the US and Europe.

Ron Smith, AIA, ACHA, is Director of Medical Planning in the Raleigh office of LS3P. He has over 35 years of healthcare planning, strategy and design experience. He is passionate about the integration of research into the practice of healthcare architecture, and is the founder of the Research Initiatives Committee of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health. His current work focuses on the evolving typologies of outpatient facilities driven by the 'ambulatory shift' - how operational models and planning metrics are changing, and how consumers are reacting. Ron is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and a registered architect in North Carolina, Texas, and Maryland.
